Engagement dinner

My new Fiancée. My new life

Engagement Dinner

So I’ll set the scene for you.
Starting from the long driveway,
Down to Pin Mill.
A rising hillock,
With houses Seemingly in the skies on the right,
And to the left,
Just down the hill,
Beautiful and serene cottages,
Lay in the valleys depths,
Where they are left to the weather’s ill will.
Yet I’d move there in a heartbeat,
As it’s as pretty as a picture,
Charming and with its' own alluring natural appeal.

Trees canopies over hanging the road like a tunnel,
To then come out at the bottom to more beauty,
Like we’ve just come out of a whimsical funnel.
And there it is.
The set scene of a boatyard and houseboats,
With our final destination,
The Butt and Oyster,
Set bang in the middle,
In-between.
Where we had our first date after Covid,
Kissing in the sunlight,
On an early summers afternoon.

We parked the car,
Overlooking a river,
Shrunk down to the slimmest,
My eyes have ever seen.
Watching the fishermen,
Bringing their daily catch to their homes,
All of them at once,
On the low tide,
coming in.

We briefly took in all that beauty and more,
Before zig zagging in and out of the beer gardens tables,
Enroute,
To and through,
The Butt and Oysters front door.
We were sat in the bar,
On a tall backed pew,
Overlooking the seaweed strewn,
River bed floor.
I’m telling you.
This is a sight,
Of which I’ll never find a bore.
To then look to my left,
To see the most prepossessing and bewitching beauty,
My now Fiancée,
Whom I couldn’t love,
Surely anymore!

We pondered over the menu.
Looking over the delicacies,
Not too many,
Or too few.
Although it did seem an eternity,
Until either of us could choose.
Not because of the choices,
But each others company,
Two parents,
Set loose!

Liz truly is a sight,
Of which I love to behold.
Liz sitting next to me,
With her hair up in a flowery abundance,
Just like in the beginning,
She had me fully sold.
Sitting there,
Waiting on our food,
Each laughing and joking,
Over stories being told.
To then be hit by so many tantalising tastes for our taste buds,
Food bursting with flavours and colours so bold.
The Butt and Oyster Inn,
Back from when time was old.
Really out doing themselves,
I’m talking tenfold.

No room at the Inn for dessert for us both,
Happily full to the brim,
Seen by our once full,
Now Empty plates.
Cleared to the rim.
From where we were sat,
We had the most majestic view,
A beautiful scene.
Watching seagulls duck and dive as they hunt their prey,
Or even above the water,
Hovering.

We sat,
We ate,
We conquered our evening.
On our own,
No kids,
We left the children in.
We chatted,
We talked,
Literally about any and everything.
I love how I see her as my astoundingly gorgeous Queen.
And how she sees me as her loyal and loving King.
I loved this date as well.
I love spending my life with Liz and our now joint kids.
Most of all,
Conditionally,
I love Liz more than anything.
I love her more than infinity and beyond,
Then back again.
As I know with Liz,
She’ll never bring me heartache or pain.
I know that with Liz,
In a massively good way,
Both of us feel the same!
