Essence of Christmas

Christmas time, a long time ago,

A family sat by the fire as it snowed.

The father heard a noise outside,

He sought to check it when the storm subsided.

The children fell asleep by the fire,

While the parents crept to their room, to silently retire.

The children were sleeping when the parents came out,

Their father carries them to bed and they begin to pout.

He lulls them all back to sleep,

And they lay there silently, without a peep.

The parents go back to find the presents,

It’s all in the love because that’s the essence.

The children wake up, and there are only a few,

But the children are happy, and they all knew,

That the parents tried, and did their best.

Providing them with gifts was enough to rest.

The family was happy because they were together,

With the element of joy that will last forever
