Evaluating our Trauma

When calculating the damage of our burns,

We wonder if triumph can lead to great quest.

Traumatized by history that ruins the present,

Scared that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

I have lived a very dark past,

One that felt like ghosts were living in my mind.

Living with tortuous fear that darkened my world,

Being afraid of my own shadow when the sun shines.

Knowing that I had to step on my own demons to prevail,

I fought the earlier years by confronting my dread.

Fighting for closure by identifying the causes of gloomy clouds,

And targeted the blackness though resolving my problems.

Attending therapy to help expunge the scary beast in my head,

Using coping skills to battle the any brutal fright.

Presently, I can live without historical moments stabbing my brain,

And I am on a journey to where contentment is the main theme.
