Evening Train

The whistle blows from the evening train.

It holds up traffic while it hauls its load.

I stare at it and think long and hard –

Where are you going train? Where are you going?

I think of hopping on a railcar.

Just to see where it will take me.

Feel the breeze blowing in. Use my coat as a pillow.

Admire the passing landscape.

Where it stops is where I’ll stay.

I can get a fresh start. Maybe even meet the better half.

Train - take me where I can find the answers.

Find happiness. Find peace. Find my place in the world.

Its destination could be New York,
Chicago, or Timbuktu.

It doesn’t really matter – my mind is open.

Where are you going train? Where are you going?
