Every Moment With You

I thought I knew what love was
 and assumed I knew what to do.
 I found that I was mistaken,
 I didn't know what love was till you.

 I never knew even half the feeling
 of love till you held my hand.
 I felt of course that love was beautiful,
 but I never thought it could be so grand.

 I thought I had already given my heart
 to the mother of my daughter and son.
 But before my daughter was even born
 the partnership was already done.

 I tried to protect what was left
 of my broken and mangled heart.
 I knew I couldn't take the chance
 of again letting it get torn apart.

 I made an attempt to play the field,
 have a girl for every day of the week.
 I guess you could say it was only fitting,
 that my barrel of fun had a leak.

 Then I came across you woman,
 and my whole life began to spin.
 Feelings I thought were buried deep
 were coming to the surface again.

 This time something was different,
 somehow I did not feel any fear.
 The more I tried for separation,
 the more I wanted you near.

 Because I had already lost one family
 I was afraid of the children you had.
 If I couldn't be a father to my children,
 how the hell, could I ever be their dad?

 There must be someone else in charge
 other than just you and me.
 Someone, that was pulling the strings
 to bring together our two destinies.

 All perfect pieces of the puzzle,
 how could so many become just one.
 Our seven broken lives were joined
 into a family before all was done!

 Our partnership, I learned compassion,
 by mistakes, we learned to live.
 I found that if I wanted to receive love,
 first I must learn how to give.

 Funny I was to be the teacher,
 yet it was the children who taught me.
 They taught me to love and how to live
 and to be all I can be.

 Somewhere in all that commotion
 of living life and all we went through.
 I found as the days turned into years,
 I was falling more in love with  you.

 So I guess the story has started,
 a few chapters have been written in the book.
 You are as wonderful as the day we met,
 I'm glad to be on the ride we took.

 So when the story has ended,
 there is one thing I know I must do.
 Always be able to look into your eyes
 and spend every  moment with you!
