EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

Walking sticks he used for getting around 
They were his support on the uneven ground
Legs which were fit so many years ago 
Now laboured, unsteady and really very slow

Assistance required every single day 
Almost as if obstacles were put in his way
Smiling bravely to me as I see him at the station 
Every step achieved is a major celebration 

This got me thinking will this one day happen to me
Cherish your steps I'm sure you will agree
