Eviction

Hand in hand. Strolling down the street.
Empty, serene.

Funny, how life can change so suddenly.
Her coat – faux fox fur, with white feather icing – tickles her knees.
His coat – the same.
A bag hoisted over his shoulder – they’re going for a picnic.

A black bag slung over his slumped shoulder.
Their reflections, they leave behind.
Leave behind the colour. Splashes of paint
on an artist’s pallet. Painting life.
The World. Turns. Slower.
Stops.

Her arms drop to her side – alone.
Her fist – a claw.
Their shoulders droop.
Tottering down the street.
Empty, silent.
