Excalibur

The Gods forged it in fire,
And by a blacksmiths hand.
It was beaten into the shape of death dealing.
Broad cold hard steel,
Handled for the settling of wars.
Cursed by a wizard,
And plunged into stone.
Barely visible except for the handle,
Waiting years for a king,
From the earth he would pull,
The sword Excalibur fairest of all.
Claiming the throne,
Sitting by his side.
The uneasiness of peace,
Would keep it as a thorn in his side.
The legendary blade came,
To be outgrown,
In the settling of royalty,
Welcoming in proud sons and daughters.
Valued as treasure,
No longer a weapon.
Cast to the depths,
For the lady of the waters.

Thank you Nardine it's amazing how something we value can become replaced by something else more valuable and all that is cherished in that artifact can b forgotten. Thanks for going back and commenting on this poem much love to you beautiful fair maiden.
