Farmyard frolics

Farmyard frolics

“Coo roo-c’too coo, Coo roo-c’too coo”
Wood pigeons call outside my window
In anticipation to find a mate
Sat perched on a branch
On & on I hear them squawking
An ever-ending chorus
From early dawn until it’s late

“Cock-a-doodle do” is my morning chorus from the Rooster’s loud shrill call
He sits so proudly at six a.m. across the farmyard on the wall

“Baa baa baa” lambs are bleating
As they lose their mother’s sight
They congregate in little clusters running, skipping with fleeces so white

“Neiggghh” from Harry the horse
as he canters, trots & frolics around
A happy greeting to other horses
This is a farmyard familiar sound

“Moooo moo” cows are calling
munching on the sweet, fresh hay
Suckling from the udders of Mothers
baby calves collect & play

“Oink” “Grunt” “Snort” “Squeal”
Piggies latch on to the big pink Sow
Sucking & squeaking with great excitement
They are hungry & they want fed now!!

“Hee haw” “Hee haw”
The lonesome Ass
Peering over the farmyard wall
What a noisy, alarming racket
That’s definately the Donkey’s call

“Quack, quack, quack”
Seven ducks are swimming
In the pond & down the path
Six tiny ducklings follow Mother
She’s giving them a morning bath

“Meeeoow” Misty the Farmer’s wife’s cat
Sits in the corner ontop of the hay
Staring betwixt the piled round bales
She will pounce on a mouse come what may

“Woof, woof bow wow wow”
Mumford the Master’s right-hand man
Shepherding the sheep from the silver whistle
He listens & obeys from Farmer Dan

Farmer Dan chugging along
on the old ‘Massey Ferguson’ red machine
Planting potatoes, cutting the corn
Shifting his sheep onto pastures green

Mrs Molly Matthews
farmer Dan’s busy wife
Foraging fruit from the hedges
She has such a healthy life
Making jams, rolling pastries
Filling up her larder
They won’t starve in the winter
When the weather will be harder

Out in the countryside
Born & raised on a farm
It’s a life-cycle of routine
Full of fascination & charm
Little ones full of eagerness
look, listen whilst they play
Helping their folks on the farm
for their future someday
