FLIMSY DRESSES
Life, like an ever jealous lover
Possessive of my time
Holds to me with strangling
glue
His fibres taut with choking
line
Says, I did not come to watch
you fly
In flimsy dresses off up high
Your place is here
Within breath's kiss, not
Soaring in ethereal mists
Feel me, love me, come to bed
On my hard shoulders place
your head
For life, like all such lovers
knows
He grips ever unravelling bows
And I, like all such lovers know
That flimsy dresses are all
show
That one day I will naked leave
To air all mortal truths with
Eve
And life, like all such poison
mates
Will wail, lament the bastard
fates
Send curses to the lighted day
That stole his lovers hand
away
Will anger doubtless, clutching
air
Grieve loud a love no longer
there
Clutch flimsy dresses, now
threadbare
Bemoan frayed seams, beyond
repair
Sing funerals to a wake of
stars
Paint over hurt's deep aching
scars
Will ponder truths of what
went wrong
When flimsy dresses
Warned him
All along
