Floating Lights

Against the mountains far in the distance
Lights rise as if floating
Over the tops the sun says its last goodbye so accustomed
With a hug covered in a golden coating
As the darkness comes nearer
The floating lights become clearer
When the sun's blazing light dies
The floating lights burn lively across the skies
Replacing the golden coat with a silver speckled scarf
Covering the mountains from above
Never allowing room for complete darkness
Only widely spread glimpses
These floating lights have baffled many through the ages
Trying to discover and lay out their purpose
Poor floating lights treated so tough
Simply beautifully lighting the skies doesn't seem to be enough
For the lack of gratitude they never stay long
So that those can't wear out their pure song
Only staying a while for the pleasure
Of those not trying to measure
But their absence is never critical
Because just like the sun's their goodbyes are never final
And as the sun peeks over the tops again
The floating lights start fading
