Forget Me Not

Forget Me Not

He walked along, with a vague sense of the dark and holy
Round golden houses, begging for a crust of bread
O but to breathe, the breath of his life before
When it was he, that tasted life so sweetly
When it was he, that truly believed in God
And that each fragrant flower, that did drink the dew
Knew the light, and for the better it grew..

But today, his wife and child lay dead
Today, the plants did suck in the earth
Today, the light did no longer, reach his head
Or heal his soul, for today, he wanders the street alone
Cloaked in tattered rags, and muttering to himself
"I am weary of this Godless hell, I am so weary."
For him, no fateful hope lay ahead...

When suddenly, there in front of him, a single, blue, Forget-Me-Not
The flower his Love had so adored, had covered their gardens floor
His eyes, bloodshot red, grew wide with tears white hot
As he recalled words, that she'd once said
"These flowers will grow, when all else lay dead!"
He bent slowly, as tears fell like rain upon his hand
And as he grasped the flower's stem, Mother Nature spoke to him...

What is this life if, full of despair
We can find, what cannot be forgotten
          Simply standing there
Waiting for us freely, as if to declare
          Nature's reminder, that God
          Is everywhere...

Hi Tony A beautiful poem I  felt very emotional when reading
the story ,so sad but nature has a way of reminding us what beauty
there is in this world that god gave us. The forget me not is for
me a flower of remembrance too so i could relate on that level
A stunning piece of poetry so well written as always
Love n hugs Debs xo

Exceptional. Writing of an intensity and understanding which none should forget. Always an element of truth mixed with magic in your poetry which defies rational appraisal but must be seen through the eyes of one prepared to suspend reality and boundaries of normality.

Take care.  :)

I got you to thinking about things huh!? LOL....................Great write Tony! You really are a very talented writer. This poem touches on the anguish that one places....seemingly, always on God when we lose a loved one. Nicely done sir! I love the way it echoes back to his roots of knowing God cares.....still. Thanks for stepping outside the normal box on this one! Sometimes the adventure is well worth it!   Hope you have a great upcoming weekend!    Paula

My Dear Brother Poet Tony,

As usual, your "flowering" rhetoric captures my heart and stirs my soul.  Here we see the man who has lost everything, no longer caring, meandering, as a mendicant.  The tattered shreds of his torn soul enshrouding him.  He looks back to the Heavens, and begs the God he feels has abandoned him, to take his weary body.  Then, all at once, a beautiful blue Forget Me Not beckons him.  The flower of his eternal loves heart.  He bends, sobbing, and gently entwines his fingers around it's stem.  Then, God's Messenger, Mother Nature, whispers words in his ear, that "He" is everywhere, and to forget Him not, for He is his path to becoming whole again.

Peace, Love and Rockets,

xox Larry

This poem is beautiful and so filled with emotion. I felt what the husband felt as I read every word. How he went from having everything he could've wanted then to have nothing. And even when he thought all was lost he finds the forget-me-not and remembers everything he's forgotten. That god will always be there. It's something that so unfortunately happens to many people. You truly have a gift with words, this touched my heart in many ways.
