Forget Me Not

Forget Me Not

Love me not for my long red hair, for the volume of its waves will decrease and its colour will fade to silver.

Love me not for the freckles on my cheeks, for their pigment will one day be lost in the sagged and wrinkled folds of skin.

Love me not for the softness of my touch, for one day I may lose grip of yours.

Love me not for my smile, for these teeth will not serve me much longer and soon I'll have a set of pearly plastic whites.

Love me not for my voice, for I'll lose my tune and my mouth will grow dry.

Love me not for my kiss, for my lips will chap and the passion they give now will escape me in years to come.

Love me not for my body, for my shape will change and I'll be too weak to fix it.

Love me not for my walk, for one day these knees which have carried the weight of the world will crumble and I will be bound to you like a crutch.

Love me not for our past, for we are not in previous form and my memory is slowly fading.

Love me not for my appearance, for beauty is skin deep. The harsh weathers and the twists in our story shall wear us down and one day we shall return to nothingness.

Love me for my soul. Love me for the person I have been, the person I am, and the person I will be.
Look not at my face nor my body. I am a rose wilting slowly and soon enough you will not see my beauty for all my thorns. Look past my petals, shrivelling and browning under the conditions of our time. Dig. Dig deep. Find my roots. Dig your way back to me; to who I truly am.
Love me for what lies within the deepest darkest depths of my being.
Love me and forget me not.

Hello Mikayla...

People put so much emphasis on the Beauty and Sexuality of the present...

They don't see themselves or the other person in their upper years...

Men too become old and wrinkled some become fragile and frail...

If we all could be blind and only with the ability to see the heart that's always where the most beautiful treasure is hidden...

Kind of like you have to lick away all the hard part of a lollipop to get to the prize in the center...

Great write!

Great message!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs...

Hello. Thankyou for your comment! It's so true. People are so wrapped up in the physical elements that they forget these factors are skin deep. A pretty face is nice to look at but it doesn't serve any deeper purpose. I'm glad you enjoyed. :-)

Brilliant right and I suppose the theme in this poem is what we all look for. Will you still love me when I am old and grey comes to mind..
