Fresh Eyes

In my arms you rest.
Your young eyes,
Sweet like summer’s kiss.
Innocent until corrupt
By a world that
Stabs
Instead of nurtures.
Where forgiveness is rare,
But apologies become seemingly
Abundant.
And where pain
Becomes the norm,
Yet it is not to be shown,
But hidden deep within.
Where it is normal
To fear for your life
Around every corner
And through every
Door.
Where beauty defines us,
And differences separate us
Enough to kill the innocent,
And embrace the destruction.
And where each and
Every one of us are
Expected to do so much,
Causing our lives to
Disappear.
But that my baby girl
Is tomorrow.
And in your hands,
You have the power
To change
Today.
