Gainsborough

Alfred The Great,
so it is said..
King of the Saxons,
brother to Ethelbald, Ethelburt
and Ethelred,
was the first effective Royal,
Who insisted all Freemen,
would educate,
and learn to read and
write the Latin,
which he'd translate..
At twenty years old,
He married Elswithu Muchel,
just a girl..
from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire,
Once the home of a later
monarch's bride,
Catherine Parr, who survived
Henry the Eighths carnage,
Also the starting Post for
the Pilgrim Fathers, in their
travels to the New Land,
where they valued Freedom,
it seems Gainsborough has
had an exciting life.
small port on the Trent..
feared by the Vikings..
Apart from one..Sweyne Forkbeard
Who became King of England,
for five short weeks.
A Danish King..
Cnut. his son
Tried to hold back the Waves..
probably in The Wash..
Time and tide wait for no man..
including Cnut (king Canute)
Gainsborough..
what a rich heritage you have.
