THE GIRL ON THE MORNING TRAIN

THE GIRL ON THE MORNING TRAIN

She catches the morning train.
I see her everyday.
The 7am from Tuddleston.
For three years
I was in love with her of course
only from a respectful distance.
So elegant and sweet
A bit conservative but lovely.
I passed time
with have a nice day.
Good morning how are you.
Once it was Christmas
she kissed me softly on the cheek.
and wished me happy holidays.
Not the kiss I craved
but still a kiss.
I fantasized loosening
her french braids.
letting her hair fall
on my skin like spring rain.
it was a harmless fantasy.
Then one day she did not
show up for the morning train.
I panicked almost asking
the porter to wait for her.
I found out she was very ill.
the sickness took her quickly.
I visited her at the hospital
every night
reading her books to her.
When she left me
I was desolate.
I still catch the same train
from Tuddleston to the city
but the seat across
from me is empty.
The only destination I crave
this train cannot reach.
It is far above the clouds.
In a high place way beyond
my station.
