Poem -

give it 22 years

How about this?
I hope you’re happy.
And I hope her lipstick is on your cheek
in the same place I would kiss you,
and you would scratch the stain away.

Through gritted teeth
and bitten cheeks;
I hope your happy.
And I hope the black smudges on your pillow case fade away.
It seems so simple to me.
To let lose the words threaded through my mind.
But instead,
how about this?
 I hope you’re happy.
And I hope you never forget your keys
when you bring her home.

And if neither of us really can be
I hope we can both hope to be happy
I hope that one day you can fall asleep with the light on
and not worry.

Buy her flowers
or pick them wild.
Not because you must.
But because you don’t have to
worry.

I hope to hope to pray that you make her happy.
