Poem -

good COMPANY

I have a new friend
she never leaves
she sits in my chair, clothes
dishevelled, and grieves

for past things, she tells me
she cries for what's lost
we're all lost, I tell her
but her tears won't ease

she looks like old ghosts
from the pages of time
like an advert for hopeless
like a sad nursery rhyme

I tell her to go, I can't breathe
anymore

she tells me she can't,
god has barred all the doors
she tells me she's staying,

forever, she said
says, the best we can do
is drink wine and say prayers
