Poem -

A Good Honest Living

It was a clear day
Sun shining in the sky with a smile on my face
Breathing in the morning air
The smell of the pines in my nostrils
Taste of the dew on the tip of my tongue
Sweat dripping from my forehead
Calloused hands bleeding after a hard days work
I pull out my flask and take a big gulp
The fiery burn of the whiskey as it slides down my throat
Lighting up a smoke so I can blow off some steam
I sit back in my rocking chair slowly drifting into a dream
I awaken to the sound of crickets chirping in a choir
The moon glowing in the night sky getting higher and higher
I look around at the house that I've built
A home that I've found
Though my place in this world is small
I'm content with it all
A good honest living
With warmth and shelter
Provided by four sturdy walls
