Good Ol' Dixie

I miss you good ol’ Dixie but I have to let you go.
You’ve always been real good to me so I thought I would let you know.
They’re sendin’ me north to fight the Yanks and bring that victory home.
Please look after my family cause I hate to leave them alone.
The train is leavin’ at twelve o’clock, I can hear that whistle blow.
I’ve gotta tuck the kids in and say goodbye cause it’s time to go.
I miss you good ol’ Dixie but I have to let you go.
You’ve always been real good to me so I thought I would let you know.
I met a guy from Tennessee who helped me during the war.
But he got shot right in the chest and he didn’t make it far.
I can’t handle this bloody war because the cannons fire at my head.
And every time I go to camp all’s I see is the dead.
I miss you good ol’ Dixie but I have to let you go.
You’ve always been real good to me so I thought I would let you know.
I miss the peace back on the farm and the cool winds hitting my neck.
And I just wish I could tell my kids that I love them to death.
I’m not making it out alive cause I can’t feel my head.
Dixie can you help me out by telling my family I’m dead.
I miss you good ol’ Dixie but I have to let you go.
You’ve always been real good to me so I thought I would let you know.
