Goodbye to a son

Goodbye to a son

Tears
  Fall
     Like a
Leaf falls
 As we bury you
     In a wooden box
          Goodbye to the earth
Once you ran across the hall
     Playing cowboys and Indians
           Pulling your yellow truck
   In your grey school shorts
Your first day at school
     Primary and then high school
Running like a gazelle
   With the rugby ball
      What a sportsman!
          Then at 21
 Proud of you son
     A big party
At 26 you graduated from Med school, our first doctor in the family
           Your first love
You met on holiday in Europe
       Your first child Max
   Now at 52
After years of fighting with cancer
       Burying you in a box
          Lowering your coffin
Our hearts break
      And
                Like a leaf falling
We say goodbye
     Goodbye to a son
