Poem -
Goodness Weeps
Delving deep into those last reserves
On edge due to shattered nerves
The furnace of battle has taken its toll
Reaching the objective an impossible goal
Now the fight is in holding a battered line
Praying reinforcements arrive in ample time
A scale of bloodshed never seen before
As all are committed to the horror of war
Land swathed in the stench of countless lost
Territory not to be relinquished at any cost
Hell has found its home on earth here today
As for unrealistic ambitions the soldiers pay
Lives are rendered a disposable commodity
As goodness weeps at the brutality it has to see.
How can there be talk of a glorious victory won,
When to humanity so much damage has been done ?
