Grandad Jacky Tait

Grandad Jacky Tait

I am reminiscing today about our dear Grandad Jacob Tait
I can still see him as if it was yesterday rattling his walking stick on our garden gate
Each and every time he came to our house this is what he did
Jacob was not my Dad but was Father of my spouse
Haha bless him if we hadn’t heard him knocking on the door
he would lift up his wooden walking stick and rattle it some more

Jacky was his nickname, Jacob was only his Sunday best but probably others never knew that so he was Jacky to the rest
Well he loved nothing better than to take his Granddaughter for a walk
For ages and strolling miles they would walk and talk
He had been a farmer in his younger days and one could tell this just looking at him in lots of ways
He had a brilliant way with words and a very vivid imagination
Whilst he filled my little daughter’s head with fascination

Grandad told her tall tales naming other little girls
There was ‘Swanky lanky Liz’ and ‘Lucy with the curls’ ‘Keyhole Kate’
and there probably would be more
When my little one was playing up he used to mention these names galore
My daughter loved her danders holding Grandad Jacky’s hand as he would take her to the Jungle which was really just his land
Teehee she would see Lions, Tigers and the occasional Kangeroo
Teehee tho he only took her in his field one would think it was a zoo
