Grandma

Grandma

Who would have thought
That after all of this time
I'd be left completely distraught
When you stopped your climb

I can't believe its been so long
It feels like we talked yesterday
You looked so upbeat strong
I don't know what to say

Do you remember when we'd paint
All those little wooden pieces
They always looked so quaint
Though they weren't really masterpieces

You used to sit and watch us play
Izzy always loved that big ball
And you would always watch the fray
When grandpa threw water at us in the fall

But sadly time has passed since then
We are all in high school or college
The boys are now practically men
But that is common knowledge

I guess what I want to tell you
Is that you'll always be in my heart
I know that much is true
Because at your funeral i fell apart

But don't worry grandma
We did just as you asked
Even though our hearts were raw
We celebrated your past

We talked all through the night
And although we did cry
You were remembered in a good light
Now I guess its time to say goodbye

You won't ever be forgotten
Because you're always with me
And although the situation was rotten
I know that you're finally free
