Great Oaks and Acorns

Great Oaks and Acorns

I remember when in Movement to Music,
the teacher ask us to pretend to be a tree.
I would be seven, so I thought of
The Major Oak, that doesnt actually
do anything but stand majestically still.
I am that tree standing..
I don't know what trees everyone else
were doing but my tree failed..
The teacher said I was rubbish..
at being a tree, and that sort of impaled
my gusto for impersonating anyone but me..
Children are supposed to be encouraged
in their learning, not made an example
of for others to ridicule..
An 800 year Oak doesnt flounce about
the gym like a ballerina..
Even I knew that in my green stick years..
Oh how you moulded me to hate authority
with a passion I learned from school..
I am that grand olde oak and no amount
of thrashing can alter this good soul.

(this taught me..if you are different, they dont like it..they like you all the same, non thinking)
