GREEN STRIPED SWEATER MAN

A man with a green striped sweater sat next to me 
He told me his life story as you are about to see
He looked about eighty but it was hard to tell 
Dressed very smartly and spoke very well 

A brave soldier was he and fought in the war 
He doesn't remember what he was fighting for
Then he spoke fondly of his loving wife 
Who's no longer here and took her own life 

The man then went on to tell me about his job 
Finally onto his kids that's when he started to sob 
He said they no longer need me and live so far away 
I listened intently not sure what to say
