It haunts me, all that I remember

The horrific events, of that September

When so many, head in hands

Struggled, in disbelief, to understand.

Evil personified, took its rage to the sky

All below, praying more would not die

Inhumanity, there for the world to see

Carved its immoral design in history.

Heroes made, climbing inferno towers

Every arduous step, their legacy empowers

Wishing to save, every nerve and sinew taut

Showing all how battles should be fought.

As steel, concrete and plaster descended

Millions realized much was to be defended

Therefore goodness, truth and light prevailed

As in its ambitions, a dark force was curtailed

For victims, a memorial cast for all time

Testament to the enormity of the crime

For freedom, new construction on the site

Rising majestically, epitomizing resolve to fight.
