Growing up

Growing up
I didn’t have all the toys them rich kids had
I didn’t have a magic carpet to fly me into happy land
I didn’t have no golden flute to sing my way into harmony
I didn’t have no ultimatum to face life head first
I didn’t have no roof over my head to cover up them rainy days
I didn’t have no solid door to protect from the horrors of the world
I didn’t have no fluffy teddy bear to hug during them scared nights
But them streets raised me right
Raised me to show love for they
Raised me to care for they
Raised me to protect for they
And I couldn’t wish a different background nor a different story
‘Cause tho the man wasn’t present the one within was
And glowed up to become himself
The chosen one
