growing up

growing up

They said we'd never move again
so I'd get attached and lose a friend
I'd say goodbye to every town
without expressing more than a tiny frown

The new place brought depressing thoughts
I tried not to get attached, as taught
but when my first girl broke my heart
I cut my skin, and grew quite dark

I moved again, but not for long
this one would last as any song
I'd try to make it through, didn't matter
just smile in the halls and flatter

The new house made me change myself
it was a new slate, a brand new shelf
I'd fix my face and wear nice clothes
And be the girl that no one knows

I moved once more, this time to stay,
and it really was a happy day
with every move, I learned some more
And I left my mark before I left the door
