Halloween

Season of mists and pumpkin lanterns;

Witches round flickering laptops chanting,

Broomsticks programmed, ticking over

Brewing up potions for flagging lovers.

Eye of toad, wing of bat,

(try your chemist for some of that!)

Youthful rhymers do their rounds

In ghoulish masks about the town;

Lighting bangers, stampeding pets

With screaming rockets like diving jets.

Then home to duck for apples bobbing,

Noses red and fingers throbbing.

These are the trappings of the season

When superstition conquers reason.

Primeval forces and buried dreams

Bewitch the night at Halloween!
