HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM

Mom, I'll be sending you flowers later on
even if you're not here anymore
because today you would have been 90 years old
but the memory of happier times lingers on.

Thank you so much for everything you did for us
for putting us first before yourself
you made it look easy raising five of us single-handedly
you never complained nor made a fuss.

You walked the path I am walking now
they are very clear to me
all the reasoning of the "NO" and the things you did
I completely understand where the thousand "NO"
from my own child I sometimes can't allow.

Mom, I just wish you were here
to tell you I'm doing well, thanks to the
shared core values in me you've instilled-
dignity, hard work, pride, perseverance, and humility
and pass them to the next generation who are dear.

Mom, switch on your flat screen TV
so you can see I'm here at Cosmofunnel
feel like living in Elysium, devoid of simplicity
overflowed with multiplicity.

Alas! I'm not standing in court
now free of lies nor wealth so high
not working hard a year dead
for tax returns so absurdly wrought.

Mom, what really hurts the most
not having a moment to say goodbye
I love you, I miss you, tears flooding my eyes
as I draw my ink to a close.

YOUR MEMORY WILL ALWAYS BE A BLESSING TO ME
