Heart And Soul

I gave you my heart the day that we met; I knew I could trust it to you;

For I felt within,” the power of love”, and I knew that you felt it too!

And my instincts proved right; you protected it well, you guarded it from all outside pain;

Through the years that we shared, you ended its drought, your love poured like fast falling rain!

I gave you my soul the day that we met; I felt it lift to join with its mate;

And then I saw yours, it gave mine a kiss, and they bonded forever, for fate!

They frolicked together with each morning sun, at night they would visit the stars;

Giddy and moonstruck, so deeply in love, they traveled to galaxies far!

But one cold winters’ night, your heart betrayed us; it decided to no longer beat;

You fought very hard to make it still work, but you suffered a fatal defeat!

And when yours stopped, mine broke in two, with tear soakened blood spewing out;

The pain that I felt, was like none from before; your defeat was my total rout!

Our souls held one another, before fate made them part; and had a final last kiss;

They promised each other to meet very soon, and again, they would share total bliss!

Now mine lays so lonely, saddened and blue, its partner has floated away;

But it knows in the future, they’ll join once again; it lives only for that “special day”!
