heart of stone.

She took a penny,
And threw it in the well,
She was merely heartbroken,
You could tell,
She knew in her heart,
That no amount of penny's,
Would ever bring you back,
She threw in seven dollars,
The entire contents of her purse,
But her wish didn't come true,
She knew in her heart,
That their love,
was cursed,
She sat alone,
wishing until dark,
Hoping you would come back,
That your love,
Would throw a spark,
Leading her in its light,
Within the dark,
home to that once,
warming house,
Her love was promised,
to you and no one else,
No light came that night,
Nor any other night ,
For that matter,
Her heart forever broken,
Her mind forever a scatter,
Their love was cursed,
Deaths unwilling reverse,
Had left her all alone,
She no longer throw's
penny's ,
Into that well,
She casts in fragments,
Of her broken heart ,
Of stone,
for when you died
she was left all alone.

Nardine, this is wonderful. In a way it reminds me of my grandmother. I love poems that remind me of things that I can relate to. Thank you for writing this great poem.Â
