Heartbreak

Heartbreak

I am the reason his words that used to light you up
Inside
Leaves you dim whenever you begin
To recall them.
I am the running faucet
Drowning your vision
when you read her headstone.
I am the hurt you feel when you bury your dog.
I’m everything that makes those sad songs
Relatable.
I am heartbreak.
The force that keeps you up at night.
And you think I’m the reason your heart
Is clouded in black,
But I’m only visiting for however long you
Allow me to stay.
So show me the door.
And maybe leave it open awhile?
