" HELL AND TARTARUS "

Hell,
Does this realm really exist?
It is said there are six doors to Hell
The portal, the gate
Most often comes to a person
In a vision
As a strange and gaping blackness
That can be felt as fear
Where fallen angels and demons
Await in Xibalba's mouth
To slowly tear your skin
In the house of knives
Said the Mayans,
Through the gates of Hell
And the horrible labyrinth
Of bloody trials and river crossings,
In every culture
In every religion
The song remains the same
Even Jesus descended into Hades
And emerges again
With a select few souls
To return them to his Father
I leave it to you
My friend
Do you believe
In Hell or Tartarus
Where the fires
Only bring
Amazing pain,
Gruesome torment,
The place,
Of utter hopelessness
And
Forever sorrow......

Good write Tony. Reminds me of a story a Lutheran minister, told me. A police chaplain he was called to a hospital emergency room. Their had been a domestic shooting, where one family member shot and killed five others, including children, before turning the gun on himself.
An emergency room doctor try to save some of the wounded children but his efforts were to no avail. In his blood stained scrubs, exhausted and shock, he collapsed in a chair beside the minister. He said, "Pastor do you believe there's a heaven?"
"Yes." The minster replied.
"Well to be honest, pastor right now I'm not certain there is one. But if there isn't a Hell, there sure as Hell ought to be one!"
Side note, the Lutheran minister had grown up, in your great city, Chicago.

You framed this write like a question, T, so unique and fresh, and it certainly tempts interaction, the word 'edutainment' fits this poem, conversational and certainly topical....suddenly I think of John Lennon singing the song Imagine, ....'no hell below us, above us only sky'....in my religion we believe that the earth will be hell, when Christ comes back and takes his own to heaven for a thousand years, those who are left on earth will be burnt up, in the lake of fire prepared for satan and his angels; who at this point will be stripped of their powers; angels have the power to be invisible now.....I suppose all religions have their own belief when it comes to hell, and one way or another we'll see who's right in the end, but isn't it a bit ironic that heaven and hell almost always paired up, in most religions; except perhaps atheism, or maybe they've now reasoned their own version of hell; God only knows....T you always got something to feed the soul brother, cheers
Hey Mamma Jamma!!........you my friend are food for the soul of every poet on this site.........I ALWAYS look forward to your comments..........and I enjoy reading what you do for the other poets here.........this site would not be the same without you brother..........and yes I do find it somewhat ironic ~ the consistent pairing of Heaven and Hell in most religions.......you have keen sense of comprehension !!..........and it doesn't go unnoticed...........Thanx for this C!!...........ttyl............T xo
