Hells Barrage

Silence, to comfort, is staggeringly beautiful
Yet what engulfs me is so hideously awful
My body shakes, explosions ringing in my ears
Memories of the front bring streams of tears.
...............................................................
The convalescent home is full of those like me
Who were subjected to humanity's catastrophe,
Who faced wars barbarity from flooded foxholes,
The battlefield ripping apart their hearts and souls.
................................................................
Horrors of artillery fire worse than any envisage
Leaving me distraught and broken amidst carnage.
My senses and being craving a dose of normality,
I wonder if this human wreckage shall always be.
................................................................
Once a proud soldier only trying to do my duty
Marching with many others to serve my country
Now discharged due to the trauma of seeing hell
"For Gods sake no more !" I uncontrollably yell.

This is ridiculously good Richard! A favorite of mine of yours. You shed light on the hell of war and so many who live from the experience come back changed with PTSD, missing limbs, and a whole laundry list of horrible things. Allstars from me my good friend.
Thank you for appreciating the effort I made trying to express the effect war has on so many. Photographs of conflict show faces which tell all about the trauma of seeing and experiencing gruesome inhumane deeds. It is up to those in power to try to spread peace and unity so this horror does not occur.
Take care my friend.
