Her Tenth Lover---A love Story

Her Tenth Lover---A love Story

The Tenth Lover

Anne was forty and single for two years.
She kept track of her lovers in a drawer in her desk.
The one that was locked
and contained all of her secrets.
They numbered nine.
Not bad she justified
some of her friends
were up to thirty  but not her.
she had some who were sweet
some players and some mistakes.
But no one who rang the bells in her heart.

She noticed the new neighbor next door
he was nice looking and apparently single.
She had noticed him giving her the look
a few times she knew he was interested.
But he had three kids that lived with him.
two girls and a little boy of about four years old.
Anne had no children he ex did not want them
And she thought its too late now.
She had overheard him a few times.
Dealing with the kids mainly.
He seemed kind and patient.
His teenage daughter
had dropped the groceries
in the pathway
breaking eggs milk and glass jars
She was weeping.
He did not get mad.
He Said softly too her
worse accidents happen at sea.
Don’t worry love.
Anne did not know why but it touched her.
The young girl put her arms about his neck
And kissed him saying I love you daddy.
He answered almost like a mantra
Not as much as I love you honey.
But three kids mmmm Anne thought.
Maybe she should stay clear of him.

A few nights later Anne sat by her pool
in her bikini.
Soft music was playing
she did not hear him until he was beside her.
May I join you he asked softly?
Holding a chilled bottle of Chablis
and two glasses.

He had a nice smile
and was wearing a towel robe.
Only if you don’t get the wrong idea she said.
he just smiled he seemed nice.

He took off his robe and dived naked into the pool
oh my god he looked so nice his body tanned and lean.
he cut throught he water
like a fish with powerful strokes
He was lean and fit.
he pulled up at her feet
he was  still in water and said
You have beautiful breast.
But he was looking into her eyes
not drooling at her.
She pulled her robe closer and blushed.
He asked her
Do you ever get lonely?
She answered sometimes.
He said are you lonely now.
She whispered
yes.

A year later

The three children were
Splashing and having fun
in the pool.
Anne had her little baby girl in her arms
she was laughing.
and had just learned how to clap.

She looked at her husband
he was so gentle and sweet
She loved him with all of her heart.
Anne said wistfully
I love you so much David.
He answered as if by mantra
Not as much as I love you honey.
