High Price

So many times the last rites are said

As fields lay strewn with the dead

The battle has lasted for several days

Such a high price each side pays !

Every soldier has fought incredibly hard

None willing to give a single yard

So difficult to know who claims supremacy

 As such large numbers die or sustain injury !

The carnage causes you to deliberate

What two sides are prepared to tolerate

So a declared victor can hold their banner high

Whilst witnesses to the horror break down and cry.
