Holding Ghosts

I cannot find the words

To paint the way I feel.

I love you to this moment

To all the world again

I took our world for granted

I fiddled as it burned

Waiting in the waters I watched it wash away

Gasping for air, knowing it wasn’t there

I didn’t hold you close enough

I simply let you leave

And failed at giving more

I miss your head on my chest

And your lips against my skin

I miss your hand in mine

And all the light that shined

I close my eyes and see you walking 

Closer to me now

I open to watch you leave

I was lost to what we had

The river grows wide between us

And the bridge itself cracks and falls

The hidden story so few know

I’ll drown in my lies, knowing your life may be a happier one.
