Holiday's gone already!
Poetic diary of our joint family summer holiday!

So instead of a daily post about our joint family holiday in Cornwall last week, I thought I'd write a diary but in poetic form.
Forever Memories for my stunningly beautiful and gorgeous fiancĂŠe, our 7 kids between us and myself to store...
15/08/2022 - 22/08/2022
 Holidayâs gone already!Â
Yes,
Weâre here!
On Our special holidays.
We seem to have already done so much,
Yet only been here,
For just 2 days!
Time flies when fun is had though,
Especially in Cornwall,
With so many other worldly,
Nature displays.
Weâve even been rock pooling in the Pouring rain.
At a place called Talland bay.
Meandering and manoeuvring down the tiniest of roads in Looe,
Not knowing we couldnât even park that way!
Although my disability heckles me,
As itâs always mixed up,
 upon the fray.
Iâve tried not let it ruin,
Not mine,
But everyone elseâs,
Super sensational,
summer holiday!
How is it already that weâre into,
The third day within our break?...
Only 4 more left to leave smiles on each of our faces,
And eternal memories,
For us all to make.
Cruising round each mountain bend,
To find St Austell,1
And Itâs stunning bays.
First though,
the indoor market.
From food,
To clothes,
 to things that mend.
If you looked hard enough,
Youâd find a present for a family member or friend.
They had everything there.
From old antiques and old,
To new and whatâs in trend.
Liz and I loved it in there,
And kinda wished it never had an end.
Especially as for the 1st time this holiday,
They had a nice wheelchair for free to rent.
Making things that little bit easier.
No constant dropping of my crutches,
For other people to pick up and their backs bend.
Then to the easiest beach location by far.
As we were actually within 10 steps from the beach,
Once weâd parked our car.
Weâd found such a wonderful bay,
It knocked the other 2,
Off our radar.
It was four when we got there.
We had so much fun,
A blast.
Whoâd have known 4 hours,
Could actually go that fast!
More natural pools of glory.
Jelly fish found,
Then played with by the shore.
Lucky not a stinging one,
As all night that searing pain would burn,
Sting and last.
It was too late to eat out properly in the end,
So we went for fish and chips,
To see off our beautiful days past.
Then a random amusement trip,
Just me and the older 2.
We went and found Looesâ beautiful harbour,
10 till 1145,
As although they closed at 11,
We tried to catch a mackerel or few.
If only we had the right bait.
If only we knew.
The boys are wanting to go back to the mystical looking bridge at night,
As you see the fish jump out of the water,
Magical like,
Under the glow of our shimmering moonlight.
Topping of a perfect day today.
Now on to the 4th.
An adrenaline packed day,
Under beaming sunlight....
Well fate didnât deem it so though.
As the heavens opened.
How the wind howled and down the rain seethe.
To think of this yesterday,
Whoâd have thought it,
Whoâd believe?
We were stumped at first,
But with bad weather,
You need a trick or two,
As a parent,
Up your sleeve.
If not,
Inside,
All day weâd have sat.
Been bored.
And probably all fall asleep....
We tried cheddar gorge last year.
Looking for that gem we all love to see.
A waterfall,
With all its glory.
Well we failed then,
yet prevailed today,
Not having a dolphin moment,
Like Portugal that day.
As we made it first stop,
Finally we made our dreams come true,
As we found out,
Down Golitha falls way.
Dashing in pools.
Me nearly drowning.
At the middle of the falls.
Being dragged down,
By the criss Cross type current.
Showing our kids the danger,
No matter how big or small.
If I hadnât have had my crutches,
Iâd have been sent crashing against the rocks,
Of this seemingly endless,
Wonder of a waterfall.
It was awe inspiring,
Spiritual even.
Knowing how these rocks,
This river and how it was made through history.
Back when volcanoes ruled.
Leaving its mark on the planet,
As soon as the molten lava set and was left to cool.
Once there,
I was Elated with immense happiness,
And by this twisting, winding river.
For all to enthral.
Some things in life you just canât buy.
As memories like this are priceless.
Feeling the tug of the waterfalls current,
Feeling the pull.
At least I showed our kids this stunning location.
Leaving memories so happy.
Leaving memories so joyful,
So memorable!
We had the most amazing take away Dinner,
Then back home to the caravan,
For Elated feelings that are immeasurable.
Even though outside,
All day,
The weather had been so miserable!
Off to Newquay tomorrow.
Please let the weather be nice,
Not like today,
horribly terrible.
So I yawn and wake at eight,
To see the sun shine bright,
For today,
Our 5th day,
To go to Newquay,
Itâs so sunny and light.
Not a dull or cold day ,
Anywhere in sight.
Weâre all so excited for today.
As Iâve been there before and the sights,
On the eyes,
Is still more than a delight.
Flying over the cliff top,
As an Eagle in the skies,
Imagination running wild.
As I soar,
Swoop and nosedive towards the Quay.
Iâve not had thoughts like these,
Well,
Since I were a child.
How Iâd hover and glide,
Not riding the seas surf.
But letting the winds take me,
As if caught up in its tide.
Majestic views of the harbour,
And the house on an island,
With a bridge to its side.
We swam there,
In-between the island house and the harbour mouth.
If there was really a heaven,
Itâs here,
But why so far down,
In the west and south.
Either way itâs beauty,
 takes your breath away.
Whether it be Newquay,
Penzance,
Lands end or Plymouth.
Anywhere here,
Are treats on the eye and mind.
Ones of which,
You can never get enough!
We followed the Celtic Sea,
On the outward tide.
Looking in rock pools to see what we could find.
Damn these crustaceans.
They are so good when you are seeking,
Whilst they remain still,
And hide.
We then got the kayak and paddle board out.
Surfing along the rip curl,
From one side of the beach to the other side.
Not just our 7 kids had immense and intense fun,
As so,
did Liz and I..
Kayak surfing is a new one for us all.
Especially when it left us as flotsam on the shore,
Completely Left sprawled!
It was definitely the funniest experience so far.
We loved it.
Leaving us wanting more.
Leaving us utterly enthralled!
The kids swam all day on the sand strewn and stunning beach.
Surfing on paddle board and kayak,
As we had finally found what we did beseech.
Waves taller than me crashing against us,
To get past them in a kayak,
Was so damn hard to reach.
As every time the monstrous surf hit us,
It took us more than ten steps back,
As our rowing was too weak.
To then find out we were sinking,
As water inside the kayak,
Did seep.
We were up to our necks in it,
Not just our feet.
The laughs and screams of pure delight,
Weâre some of the best liz and I,
Literally have ever had.
Even in water so deep!
The kids loved it so much.
In and out theyâd go,
Paddle board or kayak,
All having amazing ever lasting memories,
I know,
Weâll forever keep.
Then,
until nearly midnight,
We visited 2 friendly faces from my past.
Shared a beer and a chat,
To talk about our memories,
From when we met last...
Its strange how quick time goes,
When having a laugh,
Overlooking the bay of Perranporth.
But we missed the sunset,
As time,
For us,
Was going to fast!
2 More days left now though.
I hope is as nice as the first 5,
As each of them has been a blast...
We were desperate to see the front of Looe,
Seeing as the first time was a failure,
We decided,
Today,
Thatâs the thing weâll do.
Ding!
Ding!
We were determined to do it right!
So,
Ding!
Ding!
Time for round 2!
Each step we took,
I could see back in time.
Each cranny and crook,
As theyâve winding streets,
Not straight in a line.
Ah!
My senses for smell and taste run wild.
Each restaurant or pub that we passed,
Simply sensed,
Divine...
The myriad of gift shops,
The strange and wonderful too.
Cornish pasties a plenty,
Definitely no lack of any food.
Every taste bud handled,
You donât even have to look.
They seem to have fish by the masses.
Most caught in nets,
Some by hook.
It doesnât matter to me,
As long as it tastes good.
Once past the beautifully lit up harbour,
You come out amongst the sea.
Such a glorious view from the cliff,
And from the beach,
So much Splendour that you see.
Iâd love to be able to rock climb,
If only I could even walk.
I guess though,
If It was that simple.
Then I Simply wouldnât be me!
I live my life through our kids now,
As I thought,
âArgh sod itâ
Fate is inexorable,
So what will be,
Will be.
So weâve made the best of it.
The best holiday thereâs ever been.
As later that day,
We took all 7 kids,
To the quarry of adrenaline.
More cries and shouts of laughter,
On the water obstacle course,
Every time each of them fell in.
We couldnât see much from our view point,
Yet the kids all had a wail of a time,
Slipping along and sliding.
Getting to the end and diving.
Again I wish I couldâve done this though,
Once again,
My fate is dividing!
Liz then planned for a date night,
Just for her and I.
Kids all on strict babysitting orders,
As we went into Looe to dine.
Definitely a dolphin moment,
As the restaurant Liz,
(Not I),
had chosen,
Had run out of cooking time.
Then disaster struck,
As all the places to dine at,
Were either fully booked,
Or closed,
As by then it was just gone 9!
Through the strip of Looe we searched,
Which looks even more magnificent,
When lit up at night.
So we found that delicacy,
That normally drinkers love to eat.
Kebab in a tray,
Such a delight.
See to me,
It didnât matter what we ate or where.
As I was with the one I love.
My salvation,
The light of my life.
Whom,
Forever Iâll care!
Sitting by the bridge,
 in the picturesque Harbour.
We ate our cooked,
Not raw,
 mixed doner meat,
Chips and salad in a pizza box.
It even came,
 with homemade coleslaw.
When full,
We feed the fish by the bridge,
From the top to the bottom,
Of the sea beds floor.
We waited a little longer.
Watching them seemingly,
At school,
Jumping up for more.
Their whole class was jubilant,
As they swam,
Twisting this way and that.
They were communicating.
Of this Iâm sure.
Then we crossed over the bridge to see the 2 boys.
In the amusements,
Across the shore...
We only had 20 minutes.
But what a chilled way,
To finish off an amazing date,
By ending it In an arcade.
Yet when crossing the bridge back,
Boys eyes lit up,
Wanting to do a late night river raid.
We sat,
We watched,
We froze.
And gave up after half an hour,
As the fish only toyed with the bait and annoyingly played!
So that was it,
Now off to sleep.
As tomorrow is the last day,
 of our summer holiday.
One in which,
Mainly Ruby can smile,
Laugh and play.
Seeing that the other 6 days,
It was hard for her to join in,
Amongst the fray!
Wow!
How have I kept myself going this week?
Weâve had fun filled days,
With Hardly no sleep.
Rising early each day,
So none of us missed out,
Come cold and wet,
Or warm on a beach!
We set off for Lambards theme park,
Just as soon as everyone were awake,
packed and ready.
To make and create,
More memorable moments,
So I couldnât,
As usual,
Make us all late!
We swept them all quickly in to the car,
As soon as the last crumb,
Ceased on each of their plates!
It was only an hour and 40 minutes away,
So we drove straight there,
To start our last memories,
Of our summer holiday!
All 7 of our kids rode the rides once there.
Even getting on rides with Ruby.
Making her day!
Just from her alone,
In our pictures and videos,
From her joyful play.
You can see the exuberant smiles on her face.
Hear the sound of her chuckling laughter,
As she fees each rides movement and sway.
Hands up on the roller Coaster,
Already she knows the way!
We lost our younger 4 to each main ride.
The sort of spinning,
Upside down ones.
The type to make me run and hide.
Even the ones that are for kids,
Just going from side to side.
So I stuck to Ruby like glue.
Taking her on the train,
And other rides and a cool slide.
As I still had a few more hours,
For me,
To bide.
At the end,
All 4 of the middle ones,
Were so excited to tell us of their own adventure.
Were red hot and exhausted,
Yet a fabulous half day,
 theyâd had for sure.
So we moved on to our next log in our itinerary.
Even though of the weather,
All were unsure.
Onto St Ives we went.
For the second part of the journey.
My gods but this place seemed heaven sent.
With even more stunning features and beaches.
Definitely worth the drive,
Every penny,
Every cent.
Yet a nightmare struck us at dinner.
As we couldnât find a pub or Chinese.
Back and forward we went.
We nearly gave up.
We nearly caved in.
Until fates hand we were lent.
As we came across a Weatherspoons.
Which was surprisingly,
money well saved and also well spent.
We then left for our hours drive home,
To the static caravan.
Getting back late and started packing.
Ready to be secured,
To the top of my van.
Then we all dropped like flies,
Every child,
Every Woman and even,
Every man!
I donât know about you,
But I hate waking up early,
Before you drive everyone and yourself Home,
Safe and most definitely alive
To then have to load the car up,
In weather that ducks,
Seem to love and to thrive.
We thought weâd finally secured it.
Testing it multiple times.
As we didnât want anything to fall off,
And potentially take 1 or a few peoples lives.
First stop was Polperro,
To gather gifts for people,
looking after our pets and also my hive.
Then it was the start,
of a supposedly long,
6 hour drive.
12 hours it finally took us,
With stops along the way.
Leaving at 1215.
Driving away from Cornwalls stunning beaches,
Land and sea.
Leaving behind us,
Our happiness beam.
Like a rainbow from Polperro to home,
To me it did seem.
Iâm glad today we drove home.
As down the rain did pour,
Taking away Cornwallsâ lustre.
Its gleam.
12 hours later,
We finally arrived home.
All with smiling faces.
From the new memories we all,
Now hone and own.
We packed so much into our 7 days,
Just so nobody,
had a cause,
To be bored,
To moan.
The kids must have enjoyed it,
Never asking to be abroad
As hardly ever,
did we hear any of them groan.
Memories like this,
Written down ones I mean,
Donât fade like pictures.
No matter how old or grown.
Like a patchwork quilt of words,
With forever memories,
Into it sewn.
Memories like this are priceless.
They warm us to the bone.
Memories like this are what take us,
Anywhere in the past,
We want to get thrown.
I hope you enjoyed this poetic log,
Of our summer holiday,
Thatâs now already in the past.
I know itâs a little different,
Especially as its only my first written draft.
Of a special Cornwall holiday,
That for us had come to pass.
Luckily for words written here,
All our greatest memories,
Will continue to last!
The greatest thing is thereâs no use by date,
So down to our children,
Grandkids and all those after,
 Continually,
Theyâll everlast!
