Home ~ Chicago One Night

Home ~ Chicago One Night

Shall I say in coming home
During 'worker bee's' dusk
The hush of the city descending
Is a part of the Love affair
That 'in tune' Chicagoans
Recognize daily,
Along the 'Magnificent Mile'
Where you can touch the ease
Of the 'downtown day'.... ending
Music lovers with headphones on
Wending their way to Halsted Street
Where the peanut shells talk of the blues
On the floor at 'Kingston Mines'
And poets painting pictures at 'Open Mic'
Over at the "Green Mill",
Smile, a knowing smile
While Johnnie and Charlie control the beat
Sittin' on the corner with no legs from the war
Feelin' the jazz fill their paper cups
With friendly dollar bills and Chicago style advice
"Don't drink the money away baby
cuz it gets cold here in 'The Windy City'
And as the hush of the city
Becomes a veil
Darkness prevails and morphs into
A blistering 'after hours' night life
But not me
I change the scene by sneaking unnoticed
Onto the 'nightly closed' downtown beachfront
Where my mind skates upon the lights reflected
From the towering architecture on Lake Shore Drive
Reflected in the movement of Lake Michigan's waves
I remove my shoes
Dig my toes into night cool sand
I sip of red wine
A plan I had
I take out my pen
And I begin to write
"I'm home again!"
Here
Chicago One Night...

Your very welcome Tony Haha, picture this as a blues number... I love the sounds of blues
I'm smoking this CBG tonight...

Well thought I had life figured out
But I'm smoking this CBG tonight
Seems I have a second chance
So I'm smoking this CBG tonightย

Well I'm a slave for what this sound gave
It changes the way I behave
I was living life behind barsย
Now I've fought my last war

In the year 2016 everything became so clear
A woman was in control but now I've no fearย
My mind was walking the plankย
And i was in the red at the bank

Well thought I got life figured out
But I'm smoking this CBG tonight
Seems I have a second chance
So I'm smoking this CBG tonight

My soul is burning, I'm sizzling with no warningย
Look out cos I'm smoking this CBG tonight
Watch out cos I'm smoking this CBG tonight
I'm on fire babyย
Oooh I'm on fireย
I'm smoking this CBG tonight..!!

Never been under the Chicago light, but reading this seem as I'm strolling it's streets. Your descriptions paints it's reality. Brought back the memories of my New York days! The big cities sometimes may seem hectic to other's, but maybe misunderstood to those inexperienced. Yet sensible to those who lived their creation! Great write!

Fantastic Tony! I love this! I've only been to New York in your great land, but reading this gave me a feeling for the place and my imagination visualised the scenes you described so wonderfully. It's reading work like this that teaches me the beauty of words and poetry, flowing freely and seemingly effortlessly, although I know it doesn't come effortlessly, but that is the magic that you possess! Pinned for its beauty and magic! My respect to you my friend โ˜บ

Thanx JOHN!!..... what a 'way cool' comment...... that you felt like you found a slice of the 'taste of Chicago' from my words means VERY much to me...... it is words like these that are THE gratification that we poets look for..... for most assuredly we do not ask for much more...... we aren't in it for money or fame because there isn't any (smiles).... well maybe a little ......but mostly we do it for the outlet... the beauty in self reflection and self-expression...... and of course...., there's often a good laugh in it as well.......thanx again for this my friend!!....... Glide On Love.......peacฤ“.....T xo ?โœณโœดโ™ฅโ˜€??

My Dear Brother Poet Tony,

I'm home baby
My Kind Of Town
I'm strollin' down Michigan Ave.
Lovin' that little Water Tower
Checkin' out the Christmas shoppers
Great stores, lotsa bags
Pettin' my two buddies
The Lions at The Art Museum
Sun's settin' on the Lake
Some joggers finishin' upย
Now I'm alone
Diggin' the beach
Diggin' my wine
Diggin' deep down into my memory banks
Takin' out my pen and pad
It's nighttime in Chicago
I'm home baby

Love,
Larry xxx

Hi Tony,

Yes, I spent a lot of time in Chicago, from the mid-60's, when I used to go there with my father for national sales meetings (we would always end up in a large group at "Eli's" for dinner), and into the 70's and early 80's, when I came up from Cincinnati to buy art.ย  I've always loved Chicago too.

Love you Bro,
Larry xxx

P.S.ย  I'll be answering your PM tonight.
