hope

hope

sunken eyes
filthy clothes
greasy hair
fingers froze
they watch him walk by
turn up their nose
"turn away," they'll say
"he'll hurt you, you know?"
he's worthy of pain
he's worthy of hate
despite what they say
he's worthy to do great
he'll grow up big
he'll grow up tall
he'll grow up successful
and he'll forget them all
because despite what he looks like
and what they all say
we all can grow up
in all different ways.
