'I have seen the future!' she cried
'And it will grant me clemency',
The broadsheet scroll of destiny,
Fulfilled its role as karmic guide.
Astrologically sated
And clinging to her new prophecy
Of zodiac philosophy,
Counted the stars as she waited
For the beginning she had been assured,
The love that she had manifested,
And all the ways she would be tested
When the fates cut the next cord.
Comforted to know just what would come
And absolute in her convictions,
Her nails dug into the predictions
Based upon the moon and sun.
Her logic was comprehensible,
The future always bends and breaks,
Flexes, stretches, twists and flakes
And joy always expendable.
While the fortune told was baseless,
And failed to make its own debut,
It gave her something to pursue,
Something envied by the faithless.
With a peak behind the curtain she
Was satisfied by charming lies
Then torn apart by their demise,
But I envied her certainty.
For I have not seen the future
And there is terror in that.
