How it Feels to be Transgender

The boy runs
trying to escape the obstacles in my head
The girl in the pretty pink dress
and waterfalls on her face
chases him through obstacles of diamonds and skate boards
She catches his hand
and pulls him to a corner
“I’m sorry”
She locks him in a cage
He belts out a long cry for help
as the pink flowers fall
on the oceans of his eyelids
After a while,
he finds a key
and unlocks the cage
he feels like he’s never felt before
but he still feels trapped
He runs to the end of the maze
dodging the unspeakable
When he gets to the end
he finds the loophole
The boy finds a tiny canoe and paddle
he starts a slow journey
through my body
and to my heart
Eventually he finds my heart
the giant red beating blob
He begins to jab and slap it
with the canoeing paddle
he stops for long breaks
but every now and then he sees the need to start again
After a long period of time,
a volcano erupts inside him
and ocean crashes and causes tidal waves surrounding him
His emotions form a storm cloud
of screaming ballerinas
he passes out
When he awakes
his mind is a blank sheet of paper
his emotions are dried ditches
he’s fed up
He makes his way to the canoe
he paddles his way up the giant hill with giant swords
flying from every direction
He sees a light,
it’s my mouth!
He furiously pushes his way up
struggling with every move
Finally after six years
he’s made it
he’s taken control
he is himself
