How Much Is Too Much?

In a world of feast or famine
Where the poor can't feed themselvesÂ
How much is too much?Â
Is the question we should ask ourselves
Premeditated self destructionÂ
It's a conscious decisionÂ
We're the only living organism
That doesn't develop a natural equilibriumÂ
Recession is a necessityÂ
A blessing in disguiseÂ
Over population
We multiply like flies
The bully in the chow hall queueÂ
We take more than our fair portion
I feel sorry for the planetÂ
Mother Earth should have had an abortionÂ
We're living in period of ignoranceÂ
Our heads buried in the sandÂ
Multiplying like bacteriaÂ
Pillaging the land
A one sided relationshipÂ
We need to reach a compromise
Rotting in our steel coffinsÂ
Belching poison into the skies
How can we sleep at night?
When there are starving mouths to feed
All you can eat buffetsÂ
Another definition of greed
How much is too much?Â
Ask a man who really knows
Sleeping under clear skies at nightÂ
Trash bags for pillows
How much is too much?
Don't all raise your hands at once
How many of our needs
Are actually wants?
Our Motherâs illness is terminalÂ
Read her her last rights
Sucking the lifeblood from our host
We are ticks and parasites
We are a cancer to the Earth
It's plainly clear to see
Ignorance will be the cause of death
At Mother Earths' autopsyÂ

Hi Syd,
loved this piece- your words echo my thoughts - people need to take individual control over their own voraciousness in what they eat, what they desire, what they use. The world population is far exceeding whatever food we can produce so the future is precarious....Nicely expressed a great piece! Thank you for sharing
Lodigiana xx
ps glad to see you have been Spooked .. so have I and it was tough to chose who to spook next!
Thanks lodigiana, glad you enjoyed and could relate, appreciate the feedback. I forgot to Spook someone last night I'll do it now. Take care - SydÂ
Superb Syd! Masterfully written! I thoroughly enjoyed this!
much love.
Glad you enjoyed it John, thanks for vote and feedback. Thanks for the book recommendation also.
A couple of books that spring to my mind are Shantaram (Highly recommended)
The Damage Done - Warren Fellows &
Scar Tissue - Anthony KeidisÂ
There's only Scar Tissue which is along the same vein as Woderland Avenue. It's not as good, but having said that Wonderland Avenue will take some beating. Take care - SydÂ
Â
Anytime Syd! Â Thanks also for the book recommendations, I'll check them out. Have you read anything by John Cooper Clark btw? Â I think he's great but from a few reviews I've read on his books, his words are better spoken by himself. Performance poetry doesn't have the same effect without the performance I guess!?
much love.
Hi John, no I haven't but I'll check him out. Thanks - SydÂ
OMG!!!! Syd....this is amazing!!!! I feel the same way. I always find your pieces so real to life. I had to pin xxxxxxxx
Thank you Lucy, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the pin also. This will be the last poem I'll write for a while I think. Struggling for inspiration. I'll still visit the site now and then though. Look forward to reading more from you. Take care - Syd xo
A serious problem but brilliantly expressed!
Thanks Keith
