Human

Maybe if I were a human,
I'd be invited to your parties.
I could use laughter as medicine,
Kill them with kindness.
But moles don't go to clubs on Main Street.
We hibernate and hide away
From the bitter cold
Which we're too weak to face.
Maybe if I were a human,
I'd see more of the world.
I'd write my own adventure series,
Have them published in a kids magazine.
About a mole who left his hole
And became a bit more like you.
So now, on chilly mornings,
I think back to my underground days,
As I board a train in to the big city.
Drinking cheap coffee with strangers,
And we discuss the likelihood of rain,
The overcast sky, Timmy's piano recital.
Now that I'm human,
I think I'll be just fine.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed :)
This is just too good. Your work is a blessing to this site, Katie. You really demonstrate a great deal of eloquence and expressive ability that is, in my humble opinion, the core of what makes a true artist in poetry. All stars from me. Give us more of this invaluable wordsmithing, miss Pearce!!
