Humanity Lost

Humanity Lost

I remember the fading light
Piercing through the doorway
As the sun, was slowly, starting to set.
There he lay, face down in a trail of blood.
First glance, I knew he was dead.
Standing there sweating, yet feeling cold
Thinking to myself, I don't feel nothing.
My nostrils burned, overwhelmed
The stench of dried blood, and shit
Encompassing this basement, we stood.
Joy, replaced by anger
Happiness, overtaken by hate
Looking down, examining this young man
I still, didn't feel a thing.
Numb to this brutality, to this hate
Day to day, death becoming normal
Acceptance of violence, abnormal
What kind of person, had I become
Half his head missing,
Soul, nowhere to be found.
There he lay, lifeless and cold.
All I really wanted,
Was to Feel, SOMETHING.
