Humans

Why do we repeat the same miss takes
Again... and again
Generation after generation
For all our pain avoidance
All we find is pain
Again... and again
.
When we don't get what we want
We reinvent the wheel of what didn't work last time
Building walls and tearing them down
All the while the core still remains a Neanderthal cave
.
And the grass gets taller
But we still don't know how to manage each revolution
Fears return as prophecy
And it's just another autopsy at every UN meet and greet
.
Forgive me for my cynicism
As I sit upon a judgment seat
But I look to my own node in the stoneage machine and I could scream
What a nightmare this folly has made of my dreams
.
My grandpop was raised without a dad and so was I
Now too my son because of the fears of his mother
And I have no more tears left to cry
Only bile in the depths of my soul to tap into
And it's as valuable here as fool's gold
.
How do we break the cycle when education has benefited so few
While most of the graduates have merely been moved to a different cage in the zoo
.
Sure it may be a nicer enclosure
But the image still ain't great
Either under or over exposure
.
A just balance evades
Like stillness in stormy waves
Inequity and constraints for the most vulnerable
Maintains a world that's volatile
It's so difficult for me to offer praise
.
As long as children go hungry
Starved of love and crucified
I can never be
adequately satisfied

Being Me

A very thoughtful write Al!  Humans!  Indeed 🤔   History does seem to find a way to repeat itself. I often wonder why it is that Humanity, as clever as it is, (I mean, look at all we have accomplished) cannot make this world a better place and learn to right its wrongs x
