Humming Song
When in the wind, a sound
Does turn to song
Into the heartbeat of hummingbirds
And the quickening takes
To rivers and lakes
The smooth movement of perfect words
And time's tendency intervenes
In dunes and ravines
Snaking its way
Through the heartbeat aloud and aloft
And keeping it ever
Rolling
And rolling
Along...

This beautiful, tightly written pen pic of a hummingbird's song is (intriguingly...brilliantly) built out of the fragmentary images of sound and nature. By making the reader look askew at the central image...you reveal something new and timeless.
A cursory glance at your last four poems here [two exquisite nature poems and two blood-and-guts horror tales] gives but a fleeting glimpse of the sheer breadth and depth of your range as a poet...and shows why your work is...as always...a joy to read.

Hey CHARLOTTE!!.....I almost didn't see this...... it's 4:44 in the morning here and I haven't been to sleep yet..... sleep issues ?........anyway, I think it's pretty cool that you stopped to speak with a pigeon..... over hundreds of years pigeons have become friendly with humanity..... serving as our long distance carriers of information....." There was something about capturing the movement, the heartbeat of a hummingbird and then connecting it to the movement of rivers and lakes flowing... this is a beautiful, symbolic picture of life!
