I came upon a wishing well

I had a shiny silver farthing
My dearest Daddy gave it to me
Oh how I miss that man so much
He was a fisherman out at sea
I adored his generousity,
The silent way he used to smile
I used to sneak outside his bedroom
He liked to sing once in a while
Tho I stood there for absolutely ages
I never ever said a word
I was lost inside his melodies
An angel’s voice is what I heard
Oh how I miss my Mother too
If only I could see her again
I often cry her name “Where are you Mammy?”
Every time I get an aching pain
My childhood days were long ago
So many years since my parents passed
Tho it all seems just like yesterday
My adult life is racing fast
How we take our loved ones for granted
Coz seldom do we ever think
One minute everything is rosy
Then only treasured memories in a blink
Today I came upon a wishing well
I put my hand inside my pocket
To my astonishment was my silver farthing & my dear Mother’s golden locket
So it seemed the right thing to do
I threw my Dad’s coin deep down  Into the well
I listened as it dropped, it made an echo as it fell
It was probably just my imagination
But I could have sworn there was a sign
From my folks who truly loved me
Telling me that they were fine
It could have been the sudden chill
As I gave a little shiver
Then I heard a whisper, “Jill”
As I was standing by the rolling river
God bless you Mam & Dad
In the heaven’s up above
Forever close inside my heart
Two blessed angels so in love
